Prague is the capital and the largest city of the Czech Republic. Prague has over a million inhabitants.
Prague has many historical sights. The most famous is the Prague Castle and Charles Bridge.
There are St. Vitus Cathedral and St. George’s Basilica in the Prague Castle complex. There is also Golden Lane with small picturesque houses.
Charles Bridge is gothic bridge over the river Vltava. It is 520 metres long and is decorated with 30 statues. The place on Charles Bridge, where ST. John of Nepomuk was thrown in the river in the year 1393, is connected with a legend. If you touch the cross here – everything you wish, it will come true.
The most frequently visited place in Prague is Old Town Square. There are famous The Prague astronomical clock and the Old Town Hall. From the Old Town Hall is beautiful view.
In the centre of Old Town Square stand also Jan Hus Monument, completed in 1915 on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of Jan Hus, the Czech Hussite reformer.
The busiest part of Prague is Wenceslas Square. It’s in the centre of the city. It’s the longest square in our state. It’s 750 metres long. In the upper part stays The statue of the Czech patron – St. Wenceslas. On the top of this square is the National Museum.
In the Prague zoo live more than 5000 animals.
Probably the best time to visit Prague is around May and September, when the weather is not too hot or cold and the city is not overcrowded.
The biggest danger for tourist is pick-pocketing.
